Toxicology Seminar with Dr. Anne Starling

March 29, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Talk Title: “Designing epidemiologic studies of exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and antibody response to vaccination”

Bio: Dr. Starling is an environmental epidemiologist with a focus on chemical exposures during critical periods of the lifecourse and their influence on chronic disease risk, including epigenetic mechanisms. In her recent work with the Center for Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity and Diabetes, she has studied biological pathways by which early life chemical exposures, particularly per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), influence child metabolic health. Dr. Starling previously was a PI of a K99/R00 award from the NIEHS to examine prenatal air pollution as a potential metabolism-disrupting exposure. Dr. Starling now serve as MPI on an NIEHS-funded study of chemical exposures during pregnancy and women’s post-pregnancy short-term and long-term cardiometabolic health. She also serves as co-PI for the Colorado site of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry’s national Multi-Site Study of the health effects of exposure to PFAS through drinking water. Dr. Starling currently work on a study funded by the NC Department of Health and Human Services to estimate the prevalence and incidence of SARS-CoV-2 and to examine uptake and response to vaccination in NC communities.
