Toxicology Alumnus Elected Officer of Society of Toxicology

Dr. Jon C. Cook was recently elected vice president-elect of the Society of Toxicology. Cook, who works with Pfizer Global Research and Development, is an alumnus of the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, N.C. State University. His election to this office will lead austomatically to his serving as vice president and then as president of the society, which is committed to creating a safer and healthier world by advancing the science of toxicology. Toxicology is the study of the adverse effects of chemical, physical or biological agents on living organisms and the ecosystem, including the prevention and amelioration of such adverse effects.

Cook is a senior director of Investigative Toxicology at Pfizer Inc. Before coming to Pfizer in 1998, he was senior research toxicologist at DuPont-Haskell Laboratory. He received his 1979 bachelor’s degree in physiology in 1979 from the University of California-Davis, before earning his 1982 master’s degree and 1985 Ph.D., both in toxicology, from N. C. State.
