Financial Support

Funding opportunities for qualified applicants are provided through our through our NIEHS training grant, as well as faculty-funded research assistantships and university and other fellowship programs. Current support includes stipend ($33,000), tuition and health insurance through NCSU GSSP program.

Supplemental funding is also available from the NC State University Graduate School Diversity Programs for individuals from under-represented groups.

To be considered for support, applications should be completed by December 15 for Fall Semester.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Training Grant Fellowships-Molecular Pathways to Pathogenesis in Toxicology

Stipend:$33,000 per year plus health insurance, tuition & fees

Qualifications:Applicants must be admitted to the PhD Toxicology program. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE scores (Optional as of December 2021) and three letters of recommendation.

Research Assistantships

Stipend:$29,000-33,000 per year
Faculty Advisor:Any faculty member in Toxicology
Qualifications:Applicants must be admitted to the Toxicology graduate program. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE (Optional as of December 2021) scores and three letters of recommendation.

Teaching Assistantship

Stipend:$25,500 annually
Faculty Advisor:Any faculty member in Toxicology
Qualifications:Applicants must be admitted to the Toxicology graduate program. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE scores (Optional as of December 2021) and three letters of recommendation.

Teaching Assistantships in Other Departments

Stipend:Varies, typically $25,500 per year
Faculty Advisor:Any faculty member in Toxicology.

Research Assistantships on Individual Faculty Competitive Grants

Stipend:$29,000-$33,000 per year
Faculty Advisor:Any faculty member in Toxicology program with available grant funds. Applicants may correspond with individual faculty members to check availability.
Qualifications:Applicants must be admitted to the Toxicology graduate program. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials including GPA, GRE (Optional as of December 2021) scores and three letters of recommendation.

NCSU/NIH Biotechnology Training Program Traineeships

Stipend:Competitive annual stipend per year plus travel, tuition book, equipment and supply allowance.
Faculty Advisor:Any faculty member of the NC State University Biotechnology Training Program. Members of the Toxicology Program faculty and associate faculty who qualify are listed at the NCSU Biotechnology Program web site.
Qualifications:Applicants must be admitted to the graduate program and be working with a participating Biotechnology faculty member and pursuing a Biotechnology Minor. Generally, students participate in the second and third years of their Ph.D. programs.

Department of Education Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) Fellowship Program in Biotechnology

Stipend:$34,000 annually, depending on financial need, Tuition, Fees, and Health Insurance
Faculty Advisor:Any faculty member in Toxicology.
Qualifications:Applicants must be admitted to the graduate program in a participating department (e.g., Environmental and Molecular Toxicology) and be a Biotechnology Minor. Selection is based on written application and requires strong academic credentials. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, be committed to a career in university teaching or research and have demonstrated financial need.

Note: Assistantships and fellowships are always in considerable demand and highly competitive. Therefore, completed applications should be sent to the department or Graduate School as early as possible. We usually do not accept PhD students unless they are awarded financial support through an assistantship or fellowship. Decisions are made early each spring concerning support for the following Fall semester. To be considered for support, applications should be completed by December 15 for Fall Semester.
